Crystal the Mastodon can be found in the vestibule outside of the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Library. She was found by an excavator who was digging a drainage ditch on the farm of Walter and Ida Eldridge, near Crystal, Michigan on June 9, 1986. Her bones were excavated and studied before she was returned to the county where she lived and died more than 10,000 years ago. Crystal was named for the area in which she was found. The display was made possible through generous support from the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Foundation and donor Mort Pomeroy.
