Lincoln & Immigration

Come and meet our sixteenth president as he navigates the xenophobia of the years before the Civil War, punctuated by the creation of the anti-immigration American Party, popularly called the “Know Nothings.” Listen as his journey culminates with his 1864 campaign for re-election which included this platform plank: “Resolved, That foreign immigration, which in the past has added so much to the wealth, development of resources and increase of power to the nation, the asylum of the oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encouraged by a liberal and just policy.” Join Lincoln for a most relevant conversation.

This is a free event held in the ϳԹ Library from 12 to 12:45 p.m. on November 17. Lunch will be provided for attendees. If you're unable to attend in person, it will also be livestreamed on the ϳԹ Facebook page.
